The ship ever-so
slowly sailed during the night to dock this morning in Egypt at the port Sharm
El-Sheikh. This port is situated at the
foot of the Sinai Peninsula, which we keep being reminded is on the geologic rift
separating Africa and Asia. Sharm
El-Sheikh is on the same latitude as Tampa, Florida – we tipped our hats in that
direction! This port allows people an
opportunity to go into the town next door to Sharm El Sheikh, the beach resort
of Na’ama Bay, to sun at the beach/pool at a 5 star resort, scuba on the offshore
coral reefs, travel by jeep into the desert and ride a camel, or tour by bus to
the Monastery of St. Catherine where the chapel of the Burning Bush is located.
Lots of
options for us today, yet one attracts us today – relax on the ship, update the
blog and exercise. The ship will be
sailing tomorrow into the Gulf of Suez and through the Suez Canal. This is another first for us and we are
looking forward to this trip.
Two weeks
from today we will begin sailing back to New York City on the Queen Mary
2. Hard to believe........
